3 Ways to use Thanksgiving leftovers in your beauty routine

Perhaps counter intuitively, many traditional Thanksgiving recipes happen to contain at least 1 or 2 ingredients that are great for skin or hair. Pumpkin, sweet potato, cranberry and many of the herbs often used, for example, have fantastic beauty benefits when applied to skin and hair. And the nature of Thanksgiving cooking probably means you have tons of leftover food sitting in your kitchen.

Why not make Black Friday an at-home DIY spa day and put some of those ingredients to work for glowing skin and radiant hair? Here are 3 easy recipes to whip up after the dust has settled:

Sweet potato and honey hair conditioner

Remember that charred sweet potato and honey recipe we posted earlier this month? You can use the leftover ingredients to create a beta-carotene-rich conditioner for your hair.

Here’s how:

Ingredients:

1 sweet potato

1 cup of full fat yogurt

1 tbsp. honey

3 drops of clove oil

Boil the sweet potato and blend in a food processor with the yogurt and honey until smooth, then add the clove oil. Apply to your locks while still warm and cover with a plastic shower cap for 20 minutes, then rinse completely and wash out with T’zikal Deep Hydrating Shampoo.

Cranberry exfoliating facemask

Cranberries are packed with antioxidants and also soothe sensitive skin.

Ingredients:

½ sweet potato

2 tbsp. pureed cranberries

1 tbsp. honey

1 tbsp. brown sugar

Boil sweet potato and mash, then add the remainder of the ingredients and stir until smooth. Spread over face and neck area and let it set for 10-15 minutes, then wash with warm water, scrubbing the mask in circular motions as you rinse to remove dead skin.

Cranberry sugar body scrub

Again with the cranberries! Well, let’s be honest, you probably won’t use them in food recipes for the rest of the year. This body scrub is hydrating, exfoliating and will leave skin looking smooth and dewy.
