Common Hair Faux Pas

Some hair destroyers are predictable (chemicals, harsh products, etc.), others may surprise you. If you are on a quest for healthier hair, make sure you’re not sabotaging yourself without knowing it. Here are five lesser-known hair faux pas to avoid.

 Brushing wet hair:

Yes, you probably already know this! But do you do it anyway (be honest)? Wet hair is elastic and will stretch until it breaks.  Reserve the boar brushes for dry styling.

 Cotton pillowcases:

The friction of the fabric can cause frizz and split ends, it can also draw moisture out of the hair. Satin or silk pillowcases allow hair to slip and are overall preferable.

 Hot styling tools:

Your hair starts to burn above 365 degrees. Make sure your styling tools are set to lower temperatures or have automatic programming that prevents them from getting too hot.

 Hot water washing:

We know, this is probably not what you want to hear in the middle of winter. But washing hair in water that is too hot can dry out hair strands making them brittle. It also strips your scalp of natural oils, a phenomenon that can cause an overproduction of oil at the root of the hair.

 Too much dry shampoo:

Using too much dry shampoo can leave particles on your scalp that can block follicles and prevent hair growth.

Of course it goes without saying (but we’re going to say it anyway) that any concerted effort to protect your hair needs to start with the products that you use. Choose a collection that includes all-natural ingredients and no harsh chemicals, dies or parabens. T’zikal fits the bill, with an entire collection of ojon oil-infused wonder products for hair and skin. Shop here:
