Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve, Honduras

Made with ojon oil. You can read this on each of our products. But, what does this actually mean? In short, it means that our entire line of products — yes, every product offer, contains the precious ojon oil. A natural ingredient not only with a punch, but with a history to its name.

Tropical Rainforest in Honduras

Let's start at the beginning: the Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve in the northeastern part of Honduras (La Mosquitia) is home to around 2,000 indigenous families whom until now preserve their traditional way of life, living of the land. This unique tropical rainforest boasts an extraordinary diversity of ecosystem and species. The Mexican Spider Monkey, the Central American Tapir, Jaguars and White-lipped Peccary call this area home as do the endangered Great Green Macaw and the Guiana Crested Eagle.

The families producing ojon oil do so sustainably, honoring traditions without destroying the land they live off. Our oil does not come from plantations or large monocultures. Each ojon palm tree nut is carefully collected and oil is being extracted using the same time-honored traditions of the generations before.

Since these families live in the most remote areas of Honduras, it will take about 2-3 days for the oil to be transported by boat and mule to the nearest port. We only use ojon oil that comes directly from these indigenous families. No middle men, no large organization — we buy directly from the producing families at the price they set. This means that we are subject to the natural cycle of each season with the amount of oil available and the prices we pay.

In doing so, we support the local families and their way of life of sustainable agriculture for hopefully generations to come; this is our commitment to the people and Mother Earth.

A precious oil indeed — in each of our all-natural formulations!
