The sight of the sparkling green courts and towering stadiums 🏟 packed with spectators might be the modern-day version of the ancient Mayan ball court games which played a hugely significant role in their society. The ruins of Mayan courts, which were often built at the foot of sanctuaries to pay tribute to the gods, look strikingly familiar to any sports fan.
