Museo de las Culturas, Oaxaca, Mexico
You can learn (or relearn) about the unfolding of Spanish colonization in the Central American region at Museo de las Culturas in Oaxaca.
Housed in spectacular old monastery that was occupied by the Mexican Army until 1994, this museum is considered one of Mexico’s best. Mixtec artifacts, stone cloisters and serious treasure (think: silver, turquoise, coral, jade and loads of gold) are the main draws, there is also a great museum book shop – bonus!
